camouflage? no, it’s sunblock!

i refer to page 18 of today’s copy of today newspaper. the article is titled ‘no, it’s not camouflage, it’s sunblock’.

i was nursing my coffee (actually i had tea but coffee seems more dramatic in comparison) and my morning dose of grumpiness when i came across this article in ‘today’. ‘today’ is made for breakfast table reading due to its size. kudos to the editors for that.

it was reported in the article that many south korean soldiers are spending more than what they get as basic pay a month on bath products and cosmetics. it is true that increasingly, men are spending more money and effort on grooming but… soldiers are getting in on the act too?

in the minds of many, the prototype of a soldier is a man with bulging biceps, a crew cut, a scar on one or both cheek and a devil may care attitude. what do you make of a soldier who is equally as proficient with a M-16 rifle as he is with moisturiser? tanks and… toners anyone?

if this trend continues, here are some items what we will find in the standard kit for soldiers in 2017:

– 5 x shirt, camouflaged, velvet-lined

– 5 x trousers, camouflaged, skinny

– 2 x boots, combat, suede-insoles

– 1 x load bearing vest, disco lights inlaid

– 1 x cutlery set, bone china

– 2 x camouflage sticks, sunblock

seriously, come on!!!
