you’re pitiful

due to my recent brushes with weird al yankovic’s music (white and nerdy, amish paradise), i searched youtube for more out of curiosity and found this. what weird al does is basically draw upon societal stereotypes and incorporate them into his parodies, which he is a master of, and unapologetically so. which is fine by me as his spoofs are good for a few laughs. i wonder if the original artists are amused. regardless, they can’t deny his brilliance.

Yes, the original artists mostly are amused by Al’s parodies. Some of them have even performed with him (Jimmy Webb onstage and Mark Knopfler on Al’s record) and Taylor Hicks has been heard singing Al’s parody during sound checks. Al and his awesome band are real musicians, and they take the music (as opposed to the lyrics) seriously, and the writers & performers of the original songs realize that.

  5. ok. i think that sounded a bit rude. what i meant to say was, hell yeah!

Was that rude also? Uhm. I think no matter how i say it, it would sound rude, because i think Al is absolutely the greatest. Haha. He’s like, one of my idols; right up there beside Ellen Degeneres and Gary Larson.

ok. I think i need better idols. Someone like, uh. Terry Fox. Yeah. i like that guy.

Al doesn’t have to get an artist’s approval but he always does. He has said he just feels it is better that way. Prince is the only artist that has turned him down flat, however! James Blunt originally said yes but his record company nixed it at the last second. Now, Al had every right to include it on his album, but he is a good guy and pulled it from the final cut, offering it only on his website. I have met the man several times and he is the sweetest guy you would ever want to meet. He just wants to have fun!!!
