night safari

the singapore night safari – highly recommended visit… once every 5 years or so.

5 years is about enough time for the memory of the previous visit to clear, or become vague enough that the tackiness and phoniness of the experience will not be immediately apparent.

night safari = nightmare, for photographers at least. not being allowed to use flash means having to max out the sensitivity of the sensor, which will yield pictures so ‘noisy’ that they are hardly usable. using a tripod + long exposure won’t help, because even if your camera is not moving, the animals are. what’s worst of all are the weird coloured lights that pervade the area. the animals end up glowing blue and magenta.

top is a picture i took titled ‘chew his shorts’. even the wee little critters are going berserk. and if all else fails, just shoot your friends, in this case kyle. adeline says he has tears welling up in his eye. i think it’s just that he got shiny eyes.
